ALBANY,GA - CITY OFFICIALS(REDNECK)DONT WANT GUCCI MANE TO PERFORM @ ALBANY CIVIC CENTER - By Christian Jennings

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - One man's entertainment is another man's trash.

Rapper Gucci Mane is expected to draw over 1,000 people to the Albany Civic Center Saturday. But if one Albany city commissioner had his way, he wouldn't be able to perform there at all.

Tuesday night, Commissioner Bob Langstaff pushed the city attorney to develop an ordinance that would limit the kind of entertainment allowed at the Civic Center.

The Gucci Mane controversy continued as city commissioners held a special briefing to discuss whether it's possible to establish new policies to regulate who can perform at the Albany civic center.

"There is obviously some stuff that is going to bother everyone in this room. Like if the KKK or some other hate group wanted to rent the facility. So I have got to believe there is some way to craft regulation," he said.

But city attorney Nathan Davis says the first amendment protects Gucci Mane, and anyone else who wants to lease the civic center.

"You can't regulate speech," he said.

But city commissioners asked their attorney to do more research to try and find some way to control the type of entertainment Albany provides.

"I have not found any exceptions regarding a municipal owned civic center. But I'll keep looking," said Davis.  

Langstaff wasn't the only one in the room concerned about Gucci Mane's obscene lyrics.

The Civic Center Director even posted signs at the arena to serve as a warning to parents that the concert may not be something they want their children to take part in.

"What may be offensive to some my be entertaining to others," said Mayor Willie Adams.

Mayor Adams was quick to bring up other acts, like Larry the Cable Guy, and Steve Harvey who also performed with questionable lyrics and content.

But when the discussions came to a close, one thing remained the same. Gucci Mane will perform in Albany, and so will anyone else who properly leases the Civic Center. Profanity, or not.

The city attorney says he'll continue to research the issue and bring his findings to commissioners next month.

DONALSONVILLE, Ga. — Second Street will be bustling here outside Rev. Calvin Arnold’s Surplus Outlet on Oct. 18.

Children will be playing games on the blocked-off city street. Residents from throughout Seminole County and beyond will move from booth to booth, perusing an an array of crafts. Men and women alike will pass by rows and rows of vintage cars, trucks and farm equipment.

And there will be plenty of food.

It’s all part of the annual Harvest Festival, held to promote and celebrate the region’s agricultural heritage.

Just up Second Street, on the steps of the Seminole County Courthouse, men dressed in white robes will gather. The Georgia Knight Riders of the Ku Klux Klan won’t be an official part of the festival, but their presence could cast a long shadow on the day’s events. The Knight Riders have asked for and been granted permission to rally at the courthouse.

Arnold, pastor of Union Baptist Church between Donalsonville and Colquitt, said he understands the constitutional right of freedom of speech, but isn’t happy about the publicity the rally is receiving.

“I wish we could just build a fence around them, lock it and throw away the key,” Arnold said.

Arnold said Donalsonville is a quiet, peaceful town, and he doesn’t want to see emotions stirred by the rally. He said he hopes the rally is generally ignored.

According to the Knight Riders’ Web site, the rally is set for 2 p.m. and the purpose of the gathering is to bring attention to the issues of illegal immigration, sex offenders and prayer in schools. Attempts to reach Georgia Knight Riders’ Grand Dragon Gregg Wolf were unsuccessful.

Donalsonville resident Craig Close said he is disappointed the KKK picked his town to rally, but said the group has the right to rally.

“When you abide by the Constitution, they have a right to assemble,” Close said. “I just hope it doesn’t cause any chaos. Maybe everything will go calm and the day will go by and they won’t feel a need to rally here again.

A journalist's recent murder has led to questions of whether his shooting was connected to one of the biggest rap-related stories of 2008.  

Following Sam Ferguson's car crash last week on the Florida Turnpike, it has been ruled that he died as a result of gunfire before the wreck. The apparent hit remains under investigation, but Miami-area media and various Web sites have mentioned Ferguson's link to a major piece published in both Don Diva and Hip Hop Weekly magazines: Ferguson, 47, who exposed Miami rapper Rick Ross for his past as a correctional officer.

Ferguson was struck in a hail of gunfire by a vehicle that pulled alongside his as he drove northbound near Miami, according to reports. Ross has not been named a suspect in the murder, but his earlier words in response to Ferguson's exposé have raised eyebrows.

“Ferguson is a liar, he’s an informant, he’s a rat, he’s a b--ch,” Ross reportedly told one interviewer. “I hope he’s offended. Get at me in the streets, n--ga. You know how we play. This sh-- is about to get deeper than rap.”

Ross’ response was to Ferguson’s story titled, “Will the Real Rick Ross Please Stand Up.” The story pointed out contradictions in the rapper’s crime-centered lyrics and his law-and-order past. Ironically, Ross later acknowledged to Ferguson that it was, indeed, he who was pictured in photos posted by The Smoking Gun Web site, wearing full correctional officer gear.

But the eventual admission to Ferguson, which suggests that Ross made peace, has been virtually forgotten in the wake of the murder. Florida Highway Patrol investigators are searching for a vehicle that they believe was used in the attack. A spokesman did not return calls from BET.com.  Ferguson, Miami’s head of New York-based Don Diva, had spent just nine months with the magazine.
